Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@sofiadistefano.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

After adding your details to the waitlist, you'll be contacted as new patient appointments become available. To ensure I can provide each patient with the time and follow-up care they deserve, I intentionally limit the number of new patients I take on. As a result, my practice is often booked well in advance, with new patient appointments gradually becoming available as existing patients complete their care or additional consultation times are released.

The current wait time is approximately 2–3 months, although this may vary depending on demand. New patient appointments are generally offered in the order that people join the waitlist.

When joining the waitlist, you'll also have the opportunity to let me know your general availability (for example, Tuesdays only, Fridays, or school hours). This helps me contact the right people as appointments become available and can sometimes reduce your wait time.

There may also be opportunities to be seen sooner. If a last-minute cancellation becomes available, these appointments are offered to the entire waitlist on a first in, first served basis, regardless of when you joined. If your schedule is flexible, this can be a great way to secure an earlier appointment.

If your circumstances change and you no longer require naturopathic care, I'd really appreciate you letting me know so I can update the waitlist and offer your place to someone else.

Your initial consultation is all about getting to know you and understanding your health history.

We'll discuss your main health concerns, your goals for treatment and, importantly, how you'd like to feel at the end of our time working together. We'll also talk about your lifestyle and what feels realistic for you. Some people are ready to make several changes at once, while others prefer to take things one step at a time. Your treatment plan will always be tailored to your capacity and individual circumstances.

We'll take a detailed look at your medical history, medications and supplements, nutrition, lifestyle, and all of your major body systems. Even if a particular symptom doesn't seem related to your main concern, it often provides valuable clues and helps us understand the bigger picture.

By the end of your consultation, you'll leave with a few realistic goals to get started on. This may include dietary or lifestyle recommendations, targeted supplements or herbal medicine, or referrals for further testing if appropriate.

While there is often a lot of information to gather, my goal isn't to send you home with a long list of things to change overnight. Together, we'll identify the most important first steps and build from there. Small, sustainable changes are almost always more effective than trying to change everything at once.

If you have any previous blood test results, imaging reports, specialist letters or other relevant health information that you haven't already emailed through, please bring hard copies with you to your appointment.

Before your consultation, you'll also have the opportunity to complete your health history forms and upload any relevant documents online. Providing this information in advance allows me to review your history beforehand, meaning we can spend more of your appointment focusing on you, your health concerns and developing your treatment plan, rather than paperwork.

If you're unsure whether something is relevant, feel free to bring it along. If you don't have any previous results, that's absolutely fine too—we'll work through everything together during your consultation.

Not necessarily.

If you have had blood tests or other investigations completed recently, these can often provide valuable information and may be all we need to get started. If you haven't had any testing, we'll first discuss your health history, symptoms and goals before deciding whether further investigations would be helpful.

If I believe blood tests or other pathology would provide important information or help guide your treatment, I'll explain why and provide a referral where appropriate. However, not everyone requires additional testing, and recommendations are always made on an individual basis.

This varies from person to person and depends on your health concerns, goals and how long your symptoms have been present. Some people see significant improvements after just a few appointments, while others with more complex or long-term conditions may benefit from ongoing support.

After your initial consultation, I'll discuss my recommendations with you, including how often I'd suggest we meet and what you can realistically expect throughout your treatment. My goal is always to help you become as healthy and independent as possible—not to keep you coming back unnecessarily.

Yes! Online appointments are offered via zoom.

Absolutely! I see children of all ages and enjoy working with families.

To help little ones feel comfortable, I have a dedicated kids' table with toys, books and colouring activities to keep them entertained. Initial appointments are longer than a typical GP visit, allowing plenty of time to understand your child's health history, discuss your concerns and answer any questions without feeling rushed.

My consultations are designed to provide enough time to understand your health story, develop a personalised treatment plan and support you throughout your journey.

Investment:

Initial Consultation (Adult)
60 - 75 minutes · $175

Initial Consultation (Child)
60 minutes · $125

Extended Return Consultation - second visit or if you haven't been in the clinic for over 4 months
45 - 60 minutes · $125

Standard Return Consultation

Acute Consultation (for quick concerns or test results)

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, I kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, incur a $50 cancellation fee. This helps cover the reserved appointment time and allows me to continue offering appointments to patients on my waitlist whenever possible.

I understand that genuine emergencies and unexpected illness can arise, and these situations are always considered on a case-by-case basis.

Naturopathy has recently been reinstated as an eligible service for private health insurance rebates. However, the rollout is still underway, and not all health funds have implemented naturopathy rebates at this stage. The timing and level of cover vary between insurers.

I am currently registered with ARHG and CBHS. Additional health funds are expected to come on board over time, and I'll continue to update this information as more providers begin offering rebates.

If you're unsure whether your policy includes naturopathy, I recommend contacting your health fund directly or getting in touch before your appointment, and I'll be happy to help point you in the right direction.

I will finish my Master's of Applied Science (Acupuncture) in July 2027, so I am expecting to be able to offer appointments from August 2027.

I am... but I promise this is the last one for a while! 😊

From October, I'll be practising from The Nest in Inverloch—a beautiful new building that I'm so excited to call home.

I've signed a three-year lease, so you won't have to keep updating your GPS every 9 months! I'm looking forward to creating a welcoming space filled with natural light, greenery and a calm atmosphere where you can feel completely at ease.

I can't wait to share it with you.
